Trend or Versatility? SA Hip Hop Artists Who Are Busy Making ‘AmaPiano’ Music. Seeing how SA Hip hop artists have been sampling sounds from genres such as Kwaito and AmaPiano, can it be judged as following on with trends or a mere versatility?

Fusing genres isn’t a new thing, in fact it’s what has made most good music. The confusion now is on artists who introduced themselves as rappers then turned into Amapiano musicians. A number of SA Hip hop artists are more concerned on giving fans what is trending, meaning what sells the most at the time. Following up on this trend has led to these artists abandoning the rap they initially captured some fans with.

For instance the likes of Cassper Nyovest has been ridiculed by so many people for choosing to bump on Amapiano. It disappointed some of his fans that he no longer dropped raw Hip hop as he did in the past. Certain artists followed through, and are now busy cooking up joints with more Amapiano elements than Hip hop elements. For all this, is it fair to say they are abandoning the culture?
